Founded in 1932 by Wilhelm Blome, SKS (formerly known as ESGE) is a German company that originally earned its reputation manufacturing metal track pumps.

After appropriating the Bluemels company in 1983, SKS started making full coverage mudguards (known as chromoplasts), with large-scale production beginning in earnest during 1988. Their first quick-release mudguard was subsequently introduced in 1999.
