Today, the blue skies beckon me
still, even when they’re grey
across the city on two wheels
is how I start my day.
When traffic trundles to a halt
and cars line two by two,
ahead a show of red brake lights
for me to ride on through.
Above my head loom office blocks
beneath me, shop bells chime,
I feel the street now rising up
so, on two wheels I climb.
Then at the gates, I slow and stop
and brush dirt from my chain,
I cannot wait for five o’clock
to ride these wheels again.
